You are right. Normally 2 locos are only kept live in VSKP-Kirandul direction in spite of the upgradient for most of the part. This arrangement is done as rake is empty towards Kirandul direction. In return journey loaded rakes need additional braking power hence all three locos are live.

Fantastic pic with superb composition!! The reflection on a clear day gives a perception of brige coloumns being longer than actual size
