My first spotting of the new BCN wagons anywhere within 400 km of Nagpur. This particular rake was sitting in Badnera yard without a loco. The wagon is coded BCNHL, weighs 20.8 tonnes and carries a payload of 70.8 tonnes. Thats almost 23 tonnes per axle. It is taller than the regular BCNA wagons but not as long - probably to keep per axle loads within permissible limits. My guess is these will eventually replace the current fleet of BCN, BCNA, BCNA HS and all other covered wagon variants on IR. ()

I suppose it increases capacity while saving on weight.

Any special advantage that the excessively curved dome-shaped roof provides over the existing more flatter design?
