The story of the abandoned NG Terminus of Latur
This Marathi Newspaper article provided the history of the entire Latur area, its industries and most important of all the detailed report of the events that took place on the last day when the last train departed from this very station & the section
The station showing its locked up offices & with its small now defunct Electric Generator Room as seen from the Circular Market end, the taps at the drinking water basin still to my surprise had running water. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
A closer look at the station building, if observed the wall that separated the railway premises and the road leading to the circular market took a 90 degrees right turn just prior to the buildings seen on right side, with a small gate that could be opened
The entire view of the surrounding area, due to the ongoing case in between the Maharashtra state Government and the Central Government this building is still existent, the first step after the case is solved is that this station building will be demolish
The way leading to the LP, ALP and guards restroom, the information board was very faint, but still in readable form, also seen is the old wall which separates the station premises and the road leading to an old market, its said that a freight line went t
The carriage Foreman’s office, boys living nearby enjoy a cup of hot ginger tea and playing carom below the shelter of the office on a Rainy afternoon. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
An unknown structure to the left hand side of the tank, suggestions welcome as to what was it used for. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
The interiors of the freight godown (now a reservation counter). This Reservation counter is a boon for the people of Latur as the new BG station is far away from the city, so many people prefer to buy their tickets here itself. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
An unknown window just to the left of the main NG Terminus entrance, comments welcome as to what was it used for. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
Pit lines used for maintenance purposes, there were 4 freight godowns to the right side & adjacent to this line, the super speciality Government Hospital building of Latur was constructed after the freight godowns were demolished, sources say these go
The view of the main station and the platform taken from the Kurduwadi Jn. End, the station board is still clearly visible. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
A closer look at the tank reveals its makers i.e. Richardson and Cruddas of Bombay and its water storage capacity. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
An unknown lever used to switch points (Corrections welcome), there is a similar lever at the Kurduwadi Jn end. This lever must have been used for Locomotive reversal for the train arrived from Kurduwadi Jn, Latur Station also had a NG line (Only for frei
A disused semaphore signal post, the place where this post was manufactured and the year of its manufacture is clearly visible. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
A view of the ceiling above the booking counter. What made me click this pic was the quality of tiles used, it was heavily raining outside and not a single drop fell down. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
The Ticket booking window giving a NG station feeling, besides are the information boards stating the status of late arriving or departing passenger trains, sorry the information boards are not in one frame. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
The view of offices on the right hand side of the main entrance, not much could be found except that three of them belonged to the Section Engineer, the station Manager and the Traveling ticket examiner each. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
The left hand view of the main building facing the station entrance/exit, here again nothing much can be concluded except the ramp leading to the right most room near the exit/entrance, comments welcome. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
The old Railway station board, a great deal of it still survives to this date. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
The main NG terminus building of Latur. This building is having so sound foundations that it was not damaged in the devastating earthquake that occurred in the year 1993, a brilliant example of British Civil Engineering. (Kaushik Dharwadkar)
