This is the south portal of the 1.25 km long Honnavar tunnel. This is unique on the Konkan Railway by having a circular cross section. Actually, there are two tunnels in the view, separated by a small gap between them. The longer tunnel has a natural draft ventilation shaft.
This tunnel was dug with great difficulty, costing the lives of several brave men, whose ultimate sacrifice should always be remembered when your train passes this section. Location
