This album contains photos taken by Ranganath Eunny during Punalur - Tenakasi - Nilambur trip
Punalur-Tenkasi: Hardly a stretch of straight with the permanent way between Punalur and Tenkasi. The tracks keep curving left and right all along. From the first coach behind the loco, I can always see what is ahead. 2007-08-17 Edapalayam Ranganath Eunny
Punalur-Tenkasi: Aryankavu is a short platform with jackfruit trees and is at the foot of a mountain. 2007-08-17 Aryankavu Ranganath Eunny
Punalur-Tenkasi: Tirunelveli- Punalur passenger appears at the curve just ahead of Aryankavu station. 2007-08-17 Aryankavu Ranganath Eunny
Punalur-Tenkasi: Rusting wheels of a trolley merge with surroundings at Aryankavu. 2007-08-17 Ranganath Eunny
Palghat-Nilambur Road passenger taking a curve through the thick foilage of teak trees after Kulukkalur. 2007-08-16 Shoranur-Nilambur Rd. line Ranganath Eunny
A lone passenger detrains at Pattikad halt on the Shoranur - Nilambur Rd line. Note the immaculate attire of a typical Malabar Muslim. 2007-08-16 Shoranur-Nilambur Rd. line Ranganath Eunny
A schoolbus crosses the level crossing just ahead of the railway station at Nilambur Road. 2007-08-16 Nilambur Road Ranganath Eunny
Palghat - Nilambur Road passenger at Nilambur Road station. This is the last station on this line and is amidst some refreshing greenery. 2007-08-16 Nilambur Road Ranganath Eunny
Erode WDM-2 reverses to take charge of the passenger. The Palghat-Nilambur Rd. passenger now runs as Nilambur Rd -Shoranur passenger. 2007-08-16 Nilambur Road Ranganath Eunny
Conducting the locomotive to the rake of Nilambur Rd - Shoranur passenger. 2007-08-16 Nilambur Road Ranganath Eunny
The Erode WDM-2 reverses and joins the mainline to attach itself to the Shoranur passenger. A level crossing is just behind the loco and it must be closed to allow the loco to reverse. 2007-08-16 Nilambur Road Ranganath Eunny
Nilambur Road railway station. Note the grand old banyan tree next to the name board. Most of the stations on this wonderful route bear banyan and teak trees. 2007-08-16 Nilambur Rd. Ranganath Eunny
One of the chief reasons I had gone all the way to Nilambur Rd. To see this 182 year old rosewood tree that the Southern Railway grandly presents through this board. Nearly missed it but caught it just as we were about to depart. 2007-08-16 Nilambur Rd. R
Tried my best to capture the celebrated Rosewood at Nilambur Rd. Finally succeeded in getting this snap from a moving train. The tree is too tall to capture in a single snap from such a close distance. A wonderful specimen though. 2007-08-16 Nilambur Rd.
The loco is attached to the Nilambur Rd -Shoranur passenger. 2007-08-16 Nilambur Rd. Ranganath Eunny
The semaphore signal is at Clear now. The passenger is ready to roll. 2007-08-16 Nilambur Rd. Ranganath Eunny
I tried to capture the "pleasure and pain" of the route here. Standing by the door is a pleasant experience thanks to the all round greenery of the thick vegetation of this line (Shoranur - Nilambur Rd). The pain are those teak leaves that will
General Scenes: A well designed little tuck shop on the platform of Angadippuram station. Wish they had similar designs for mainline stations as well. 2007-8-16 Angadippuram Ranganath Eunny
General Scenes: My ticket from Nilambur to Shoranur. A standard card ticket with a surprisingly neat print. Rs. 14 of excellent entertainment! 2007-8-16 Ranganath Eunny
General Scenes: Not exactly a suitable place to be studious, is it? The Shoranur - Nilambur line is well patronized by the local populace for a branch line, specially by students who find it a cheap and quick mode of commuting. 2007-8-16 Ranganath Eunny
General Scenes: Forlon! A broken tap lies unattended on platform 6 of Shoranur Jn. 2007-8-16 Shoranur Ranganath Eunny
General Scenes: Board bearning the position of coaches. I wonder how effective they are when a train actually halts here. Interestingly, it provides the direction of the numbering too (Towards Mangalore). 2007-8-16 Shoranur Ranganath Eunny
General Scenes: Early morning scene just off Ottapalam station on the way to Shoranur. 2007-8-16 Ranganath Eunny
Sunrise at Nagercoil Jn reveals lush fields, swaying palm and wonderful mountains. Nagercoil 2007-08-18 Ranganath Eunny
