For many years, a company called Vembanad Waterways operated barges to connect Cochin with various parts of the state. Even Bradshaw, 1931 give a reference to the predecessor of this Company, Malabar Waterways, operating from Cochin to Quilon and Kottayam (Jimmy Jose)
