And here is the surprise! Behind the diesel from LDH, WAP-4 22524 from HWH looks lonely without wires. Apparently, the lazy folks at JUC thought it wise to send 120 tons of dead weight all the way up. The train is the NDLS-UHP A/C special.

Hauling dead weights is apparently quite common. A few years ago Visakha Express had to run via KZJ due to flooding on tracks in the Bibinagar-Guntur route. It was hauled by a BZA WAM-4 with a dead KZJ WDM-2 in the end. At BZA, the WDM-2 was fired up while the WAM-4 was detached. So, the above picture is not really an extraordinary one but certainly a good capture of this practice.
