Eastward Ho !!
Images from a trip to East and North East - by Harish Kumar
Got this near Sahibabad. Any idea what happened to this fellow? This was clicked from behind the glass window, onboad DBRT Rajdhani. 09/01/2009, Sahibabad (Harish Kumar)
WAP-4 #22616 from Ghazi, which hauled 2424 DBRT Rajdhani upto Barauni Junction being disconnected for a diesel to take charge from here. The train was 2.10 behind schedule and for such visibility, i think the train had did well actually. 10/01/2009, Barau
At the other end of the station, the conditions were similar. The unknown loco was hauling Hatia - Gorakhpur Express. 10/01/2009, Barauni Junction (Harish Kumar)
WDP-4 #20049 probably from Siliguri Shed takes charge of 2424 upto GHY. Later a New Guwahati WDM2 hauled the 5 coach rake from GHY to DBRT. The train reverses here and proceeds to Katihar Jn via Mansi Jn. 10/01/2009, Barauni Junction (Harish Kumar)
The entire region was enveloped in thick fog. The visibility was barely 50 mts but the train kept a good speed. 10/01/2009, Barauni Junction (Harish Kumar)
The conditions did not change much even at 8.50 in the morning. Visibility was still about 50 to 100 mts. 10/01/2009 Naugachia, near Mansi Jn. (Harish Kumar)
Race-on! We just stepped into the first station of NFR and I found these kids racing along the Raj. They were actually running towards the Pantry car to request for left out meal. 10/01/2009 Katihar Jn. (Harish Kumar)
Hazy conditions were still on. Gonda WDM-3a #18759 waits with a long frieght while another class-mate performs shunting duties. 10/01/2009 Katihar Jn. (Harish Kumar)
As the proceed towards Barsoi Jn. the newly converted BG line from Purnia Jn joins from the left. There were traces of MG alignment and MG Girder Bridges found upto Aluabari Road. 10/01/2009 Katihar Jn. (Harish Kumar)
Mukuria Junction is the station where the line from Katihar and Malda town exactly joins. Here we over took an unknown passenger train behind a very sad look WDG-2A #14757 from Malda. 10/01/2009 (Harish Kumar)
The only surviving MG section in this part of the country is between Aluabari Road and Siliguri. The MG line to Siliguri via Naksalbari, Baghdogra moves away to the left. 10/01/2009 Aluabari Road (Harish Kumar)
The track maintanance activity just before NJP seems to have invited a number of curious onlookers. 10/01/2009 (Harish Kumar)
This is the first time i see a WDP-4B class loco. Here we have WDP-4B #20075 at the eastern end of NJP. 10/01/2009 (Harish Kumar)
The New meets the old. The NDLS bould Raj Spl waits for 2424 to cross at Kokhrajahar, just as the sun prepares to set. 10/01/2009 (Harish Kumar)
Guwahati - Sealdah Kanchanjunga Express was cleared off the home signal of NJP. 11/01/2009 (Harish Kumar)
Howrah WDM-2 #18572 brings in the Howrah - New Jalpaiguri Express. 11/01/2009 (Harish Kumar)
A very clean WDP-4 20066 going through routine checks before it would be assigned for the DBRT Rajdhani from here. On this day, the Raj from NDLS came in with a LHF WDP-4 and so is the interchange. 11/01/2009 (Harish Kumar)
WDM-3 14146 brings in a BCN rake from New Bongaigaon side. 11/01/2009 (Harish Kumar)
On the far east side of NJP, is this abandoned Narrow Gauge C & W Shed. The shed had 3 pit lines. 11/01/2009 (Harish Kumar)
Cheetah arrives in style. WDM-3D #11267 from TKD brings a BCN rake into NJP. 11/01/2009 (Harish Kumar)
On the right hand side of the main line, was this abondoned BG steam shed. Quite a few WP axles were found lying around. 11/01/2009 (Harish Kumar)
On a closer look the profile confirms that these axles belongs to WP class loco. 11/01/2009 (Harish Kumar)
