An Unforgettable Journey In The Meter Gauge Jewel of North East

A 3 Day epic journey covering a small patch of once a vast North East Meter Gauge Network, was the best we could do to serve a punishment of missing out on the major sections now lost buried under the sands of time and the gauge conversion of Progress. We started from Agartala and sailed our way though Karimganj, Badarpur and culminating at Silchar across the three days. Wish we could have covered more

As night has fallen, the shunting jobs continue at Badarpur juncton as we prepare to end a long Day-2 in the North East (Trayambak Ojha)

Day-3, was going to be short and hectic as the morning began with a tricolor painted landscape at Silchar and the trains towards Karimganj and Agartala gearing to depart (Trayambak Ojha)

Our final destination in the North East was going to be Arunachal Junction, the first stop after Silchar where the tracks to Jiribam in Manipur State separate. We were not lucky enough to catch a train towards Jiribam since it was suspended, the passenger

Soon another freight train arrived fromt eh goods yard at Silchar after unloading, ready to give way for the waiting goods train to take its place (Trayambak Ojha)

We then moved onto a viaduct on the outskirts of Silchar town and as the rain was gathering momentum the Barak Valley Express thunders down the gradients in glory (Trayambak Ojha)

And the caboose with the semaphores bid us goodbye, saying do remember us in our thoughts long after when we are gone! (Trayambak Ojha)
