An Unforgettable Journey In The Meter Gauge Jewel of North East
A 3 Day epic journey covering a small patch of once a vast North East Meter Gauge Network, was the best we could do to serve a punishment of missing out on the major sections now lost buried under the sands of time and the gauge conversion of Progress. We started from Agartala and sailed our way though Karimganj, Badarpur and culminating at Silchar across the three days. Wish we could have covered more
And another totally dilapidated YP#2166, rests in peace having seen more glory days than ever in the past (Trayambak Ojha)
The YDM4-6698 stands tall at Badarpur station uncertain of its future (Trayambak Ojha)
The shunting duties never end for these smaller cousins of Alcos and fight hard to live another day (Trayambak Ojha)
Meanwhile the passenger from Silchar towards Karimganj arrives without much fuss thereby giving us less time to capture its arrival in the outskirts (Trayambak Ojha)
From Karimganj side, the freight which was stationery at Nilambazar arrives curving through the red brigade of MACL signals (Trayambak Ojha)
And after a short halt the passenger towards Karimganj headed by 6420 departs (Trayambak Ojha)
As night has fallen, the shunting jobs continue at Badarpur juncton as we prepare to end a long Day-2 in the North East (Trayambak Ojha)
Day-3, was going to be short and hectic as the morning began with a tricolor painted landscape at Silchar and the trains towards Karimganj and Agartala gearing to depart (Trayambak Ojha)
And the passenger towards Karimganj get the first rights to go in the twilights of its service (Trayambak Ojha)
The semaphores at Silchar provided a nice garnishing to the overall flavor of Meter Gauge (Trayambak Ojha)
Our final destination in the North East was going to be Arunachal Junction, the first stop after Silchar where the tracks to Jiribam in Manipur State separate. We were not lucky enough to catch a train towards Jiribam since it was suspended, the passenger
A real Army of semaphores stood tall to let know the train that it was time to go (Trayambak Ojha)
And just like loyal soldiers they stoo guard straight once their captain left (Trayambak Ojha)
Soon another freight train arrived fromt eh goods yard at Silchar after unloading, ready to give way for the waiting goods train to take its place (Trayambak Ojha)
We then moved onto a viaduct on the outskirts of Silchar town and as the rain was gathering momentum the Barak Valley Express thunders down the gradients in glory (Trayambak Ojha)
And the caboose with the semaphores bid us goodbye, saying do remember us in our thoughts long after when we are gone! (Trayambak Ojha)
