4H Hilsa

The 2'6" line between Futwah and Islampur was the last survivor of six lines operated in India by Martins Light Railway. When I first visited in January 1979 the line was moribund due to flooding and 0-6-2T 4H built by Manning Wardle of Leeds in 1923 was lying in bits around the shed at Futwah. Four years later in March 1983 I was fortunate enough to ride behind 4H from the halfway point at Hilsa back to Futwah.
