Saraya Sugar Mills

The sugar mill at Saraya near Gorakphur in India was a living museum and the owners always showed incredible hospitality to visiting railway enthusiasts. The mill operated a variety of steam locomotives on both metre and narrow gauge (2'6"). On the latter, No. 54 was an 0-6-2 built by Kitson & Co. of Leeds in 1900, originally for service with the North Western Railway. The owners arranged this working to the cane fields for us complete with inspection saloon on the rear - 1979.02.10
