Madras-Karaikudi Express arrives at Karaikudi behind YP 2400 late December 1984. This was a portion of #101 Madras-Rameswaram Exp detached at Mayiladutarai, which then ran as # 683 Express.
On the former cross country line which is now the main MG line to Rameshawaram, YL 5213 climbs though a cashew plantation north of of Karaikudi. Location is north of Arangtangi on a grade of 1 in 160; the train is # 686 passenger to Mayiladuturai.
