A Pacific locomotive belonging to the North Western Railway that could be one of either XS1 or XS2 classes. NWR deployed 4-6-2 Pacific locomotives of these classes: WL (built 1939), XS1, XS2, XA, XA1, XA2 and XC class.
This is what I believe The Imperial Mail pulling into Nagpur Junction. This is an undated photograph reproduced from a glass plate negative. However the shining 4-4-2 E1 class locomotive at the helm suggests that the picture could be from 1910-5. Note the
`Orion', an East Indian Railway locomotive numbered 97 was originally built as 0-4-0 WT in 1859-60 by Avonside. All locomotives from this batch were originally just named and the numbers were added only between 1880-4. All were rebuilt as 0-4-2 WT in 186
East Indian Railway (EIR), E class locomotive No. 202, a 2-4-0 built by Kitson in 1860-1. These were amongst the earliest standard design mass-produced locomotives for a railway company in India.
