Alas, a scene that will never be repeated! Mysore has always been a bastion for m.g. steam. The station was also one of the very few on the IR with a roundhouse. (Bitragunta was another). This classic scene was visible for a brief moment as your train to
YDM4 # 6286 prepares to leave Madras Egmore on a hot afternoon in 1992 with the Pallavan Express to Trichy. I had followed the train from Tambaram in an e.m.u. The SHF engine had been turned round in record time, and was preparing to leave, again running

The starter scribbles a few last minute notes before clearing YP 2825 for a late evening departure from Udaipur. Note token hoop hanging in the loco'c cab, and the electric cab and undercarriage lighting competing with the raging fire in the half open gra
This is as crude as it gets: Narrow gauge railcar on the Ahmedpur to Katwa line in Eastern India. The train is basically a set of vehicles with bus bodies coupled together to form a railcar. (2005)#AUTH1#Samit Roychoudhury#AUTH2#
In stark contrast is this spanking new diesel multiple unit with a refreshing new fibreglass body at Ambala in Northern India. The cars too are of a new design, with large windows. The bodywork is by Hindustan. (2005)#AUTH1#Vicky#AUTH2#
A very atmospheric shot of a rather congested part of the platform beside the end on generator car of a Rajdhani Express at New Delhi. The smoke you see is the exhaust from the diesel generator inside the car. (2005)#AUTH1#Shashanka Nanda#AUTH2#.
Full steam ahead for an elegant HPS steam locomotive as she departs from Lucknow with a passenger train in 1982. The large driving wheels of these HPS engines made them suitable for fast running. #AUTH1#John Lacey#AUTH2#.

Gorgeous night time view of freight trains at the wagon tipping facility on the Kirandul Kottavalasa line. (2005). Engines in charge are WDS-6. The coupler allows the individual wagons to be tipped even when coupled to the next wagon on either end.
Broad gauge and 2' 6" gauge ng tracks side by side at Ranchi, circa 1987. The ng trains do pretty hard work carrying bauxite.
Featuring this line for the first time on Showcase: a ZDM5 takes a breather at a station on the Kangra Valley 2'6" ng line. The line runs from Pathankot to Baijnath Paprola, but is probably truncated now, after a bridge collapsed between Jwalamukhi a

An artful shot of man vs machine by Lakshman. Which is more powerful? In this shot, man definitely appears to be the mightier one! Location: Secunderabad, 2005 Photo by: Lakshman
Spot the lurker: a solitary mg YAM-1 electric loco shunts cars of m.g. electric multiple units inside the Tambaram car shed, near Madras (Chennai), 2004. Sadly, both the YAM-1 as well as the m.g. multiple units have now faded into oblivion. Photo by: Pooc
Putting old structures to alternative use: the old steam shed at Dongargarh now serves as a store for sundry electrification items. Note the arches where steam engines would once enter. The dismantled rails and sleepers are in the foreground. This pic mad
Long way to go, with an even longer long hood in the forground! A Jan Shatabdi with a LHF running WDP4 speeds past another train. Note the typical Jan Shatabdi style windows and construction of the leading car. (2005).A routine shot of a routine run, henc
