It looks like there is a level crossing just after the platform. The W/L board has to be placed before a stipulated distance so that the crew use the horn and make their presence felt. In case the stipulated distance is on a platform - that is where the W/L board would be. For a train passing through this station at speed, the level crossing is only a few tens of seconds ahead.

shailesh, the only logical explaination i can come up with is that u notice that the platform is actually so narrow and if people do stand in the middle, they could still be affected by a train entering the platform at good speed and hence i think that ...
