Main Traction/Braking link in the WAG9 locomotive. This link transmits the Traction and Braking effort from the bogie to the loco body. The tapering steel structure descending from above is connected to the bogie while the link rod going towards the left is connected to the locomotive body nears its centre.A similar link is also provided from the other bogie. While in conventional Tap-Changer locos, the centre-pivot of the bogie is used to transmit the Tractive and Braking forces as also bear the body weight,in this arrangement only the weight of the loco is borne by the suspension. This also drastically improves adhesion and increases tractive effort while reducing wear and tear on the centre-pivot.
