Burmese meter gauge locomotive from North British Locomotive Co., Ltd., Glasgow, Scotland, about 1916. Description in scan is partly illegible: "This locomotive is a Mallet articulated compound and develops 22,170 lb. tractive effort at 50 per cent of its working pressure, which is 180 lb. The wheels are 3 ft. 3 in. in diameter. High pressure cylinders are ??? in diameter and low pressure cylinders 24 in. Saturated steam is used and is generated by a grate area of 33 sq. ft. The engine weighs 133,000 lb. and is equipped with a Pyle National electric headlight. These locomotives are the sixth lot of North British locomotives delivered to India and Burma. They were built in accordance with the instructions of Messrs. Rendel, Palmer and Tritton, consulting engineers for the Burma Railways. The photograph and the data presented here were taken from Modern Transport (London)." Additional information: North British Built four N class 0-6-6-0 locomotives (No. 342-5) for Burma Railway in 1910, another four (No. 381-4) in 1913, another four (No. 1-4) in 1915, and yet another four (No. 11-15) in 1921. However the earliest Mallet compound locomotives for Burma Railway were two H Class (No. 208-12) built by Vulcan Foundry in 1901, and another four (No. 329-30) were built in 1910. The last Mallet compounds ordered by Burma Railway were four Ns Class (No. 16-20) built by William Beardmore Co. in 1923.
