The passage to the office of the Senior Section Engineer (C and W), Cochin Terminus.

I remember coaches getting cleaned up here a few years back..

IMG_0435

The old cabin stand out from its green surroundings. The cabin that controlled activities here. This cabin will never see a train again.

Another view of the majestic platforms..

Indian Railways have indianised names of various stations since names of the respective places too were changed. Did IR forget to rename "Cochin" to "Kochi". Or no painter dared to cross the bush to rename??

IMG_0537

This is the approach to the passenger side of Cochin Terminus

IMG_0555

The home signal to Cochin Terminus. Modern yet unused..

IMG_0530

A kilometer marker is the only proof supporting that trains once ran through. 113 kilometers from Shoranaur Junction

IMG_0428

This photo demonstrates the difference between life on the right and death on the left. The left side was once passenger rake parking area

IMG_0430

The active goods yard of Cochin Terminus. It sees many movements every day. The most profitable goods yard of Thiruvananthapuram division. Please make the passenger area as busy as this!

IMG_0553

The goods yard has no trains to handle today. The lone wagon is a palm oil tanker

IMG_0422

A new goods unloading platform is being built. This will be used primarily to unload or load grains from BCNA wagons

IMG_0549

The work on the platform is not over but even before it's completion, provision to fix plates announcing the inauguration of the yard is in place!

IMG_0524

The water logged circular tank like structure is infact an old turn table!!! In the heydays, so many steam hauled trains worked from here

IMG_0525

The lines that proceed to the old turn table has been relaid with concrete sleepers. Why? Any chance of a rebirth?

Very informative photo essay on the sad state of affairs at CHTS. Hope, once the new bridge to the mainland gets ready, CHTS gets back some of its lost glory. Circa 1999, it was a busy yard. Good work Jimmy!!

Tearful I can say...never went here but remember seeing the Gorakhpur-Cochin exp (now 2511 Raptisagar) which started in late 80s and name Cochin was made famous among railway folks in LKO. Also took this train twice once for JTJ and once for CBE before ...
