`Palej' was Locomotive No. 8 of Bombay Baroda and Central India Railway. It was assigned A class and had a 2-4-0T wheel arrangement. Built by Robert Stephenson & Co. in 1881, it had 60" coupled wheels and 16 X 22" diameter cylinders.
Locomotive No. 4 & 5 in the same class were named `Patna' and `Poona'.
