The bridge is spanning the entire flood plain, not just the river course. It gets, or used to get, entirely submerged during monsoons for that foaming wide look.

The Ganga is still a few kms away at this point from its merger with Yamuna, so less water at this point. Still not large volume of water till Chapra, where Ghaghra merges into it and Ganga becomes like an ocean onwards with two other big tributaries...
