The newly delivered LHB coaches await trials at the Delhi Safdarjang station in February 2001. One coach is uncoupled and stationed at the platform track. Note the Alstom banner stuck on one coach window of the train. These coaches went on to serve the fast Shatabdi service to Lucknow. |

This is a rail-level shot of the speeding Sapthagiri Express, caught on the down line to Arrakkonam a little east of Hindu College station. The crowd seen at stations keeps reducing as we head west out of Chennai city. The rear cab has controls connected across the train to the locomotive at the other end. |

The rear cab of the legendary Sapthagiri express shows one squinted eye window. Most push-pull trainsets are local workshop jobs with each train bearing a unique personality. The train is departing Perambur in Chennai, that has one of IR's most prolific shop floors - the Integral Coach Factory (ICF). |

The cab of the Sapthagiri express is spacious enough to accomodate seven brothers and their brides :) (That's why the "Saptha" in the name - Sanskrit word for seven?) Anyways the driver doesnt seem to enjoy this joyride - compared to the cramped interior of a locomotive cab, in this pic taken in Arrakkonam Junction. |
