2621 Tamil Nadu Express has a decent climb along the way from Chennai to Nagpur, but the Vindhya hill range presents a formidable task for trains headed for Itarsi. The dull evening sun shimmers along the sides of this train as it accelerates north of Amla in late August '98. |

The color "dark brown" became indelibly linked with Indian Railways when most of the rakes wore this color till the start of the 21st century. Now with air-braked stock becoming the norm, the older vacuum-braked trains have become an endangered species. The 1014 Coimbatore Kurla express accelerates out of Dharmavaram station on a sultry April '99 afternoon. |

A cavernous tunnel seems to be having a speeding train for lunch :) The Bhore Ghat route is pretty scenic with lots of tunnels, bridges and viaducts offering breathtaking views to the travellers. The 1014 Coimbatore Kurla Express takes the third line out of Monkey Hill flag station and runs into the first long tunnel on the way down. |

Drivers descending along the Bhore Ghat in CR's Mumbai division must use enough brake pressure to control the speed of the train from reaching absurd levels on the steep slope. The wheels of the 1014 Coimbatore-Kurla express screech and spark as the train prepares to tackle the last curve on the gradient section. |

The 2621 Chennai-New Delhi Tamil Nadu Express is a mean machine that shows no regard for important junctions like Sewagram that separates the Mumbai-Howrah and Delhi-Chennai lines in Maharashtra. This train accelerates after negotiating the sharp bye-pass curve to sprint across this station on its way to the next port of call - Nagpur. |

Another view of desolate Sewagram station, captured from the 2621 Tamil Nadu Express. This station is unique - as it is named after an adjacent station that was later decommisioned. I have great memories of trainspotting here - Oct '90 and Apr '92. |
