Life-size (and anatomically correct) statue of a bull and a
horse (on the other side of the road) guard the entrance to Morbi
town on the Macchu river bridge. Shrinivas looks worried as a truck
passes him from uncomfortably close. Note the lower quadrant (level
crossing) gate signal at the end of the bridge. The permanent way
of the long discontinued NG branch to Ghantila is evident near the
level crossing on the other bank of the river. |
|
410 down power smoking at the far end of the bridge. Note the
fancy street lamp pillars (sadly in a state of disrepair) on the
railway line! That is how much the royalty regarded the
railways and the visual symmetry of the structures. |
|
The train draws nearer, just crawling due to the speed limit on
the bridge. |
|
Evidence of blower being started. In most places, the road
bridge is separated by the railway by a few critical inches of
space, hence it is not possible to jump on to the permanent way
from the road bridge. Also much of the railway track on the bridge
is on suspended sleepers (with green water showing from the gaps)
rather than firm ground. |
|
More detailed shot of the tender-foremost YG 3447 approaching
the end of the bridge towards Morbi yard. |
|
Not much of a composition, the incessant public mars it all.
The picture illustrates the extra tall lower quadrant Morbi home
signal and its counterweight. |

Sarosh adjusts his camera for the next shot, while the angle
bottomed MG rake (homing at ADI [Ahmedabad]) rolls to its
destination a few hundred meters ahead. |
