Images from a journey on the MG line between Udaipur and Ahmedabad (unfortunately curtailed at Dungarpur)
The first and only crossing en route, was at Umra where a YDM4 from Sabarmati shed was hauling a solitary SLR coach. ()
The highest point on this line is just after Umra, with an MSL of 585.64m. From there, the line starts winding its way down the Mewar Plateau through a series of curves, rock cuttings and a solitary tunnel. ()
The vegetation along the line is typical of the dry deciduous forests of the Aravalis. But I am sure, in the rainy season, the views along the line would be spectacular. ()
Children travelling on the train seem to be making the best use of the Emergency Window. ()
A little sign for the Loco Pilots to avoid smoking in the tunnel :-) ()
In the 14km that the line has travelled from Umra to Kharwa Chanda, it has already lost 90m in altitude. A lovely set of semaphores guards the entry into the station. ()
The Ghat section ends at Zawar, where a catch siding has been built past a brake testing halt outside the station. The grade marker along the line is for the catch siding. ()
The pretty little station of Zawar. The sign on the hill in the background translates into 'Better Discipline - Greater Production'. The MSL at Zawar is 357m. ()
"Which way does this train go?" ()
Even though the Ghat section has ended at Zawar, the line continues to descend. Here, one can see the gentle grade that leads into Rikhab Dev Road station. ()
