XT 36850 Amritsar
The short, stumpy XT class 0-4-2Ts were a rather odd design for India, but 77 were built over a 20 year period between 1929 and 1950. The original order was built by Kruup in Germany in 1929 with further batches from the same builder in 1935 & 1936. The final 20 locomotives were built in India at the Ajmer workshops, XT 36850 emerging in 1945. By the time this view was taken in October 1978, it was the sole remaining survivor the class and is seen arriving at Amritsar with the morning 'international' train from the Pakistan border station at Atari.

Funny looking locomotive. First I thought that the locomotive go detached from its coal and water tender, then carefully looking at the pic, I realized it was one complete unit, still it looks somewhat as if truncated.
