XE Class 2-8-2, an IRS heavy goods locomotive was the largest unarticulated locomotive used in the sub-continent. It weighed around 200 tons in working order and its dimensions were used as standards for creating mainline and tunnel clearances. Vulcan Foundry built the first bach of 11 locomotives in 1928. This locomotive is amongst the last batch of 35 locomotives built by VF for Western/Southern Railway in 1945. These incorporated a larger 6000 Gallons/14 ton tender and were known as XE/1 class.
