Vulcan Foundry built the first batch of ten YD/1 class 2-8-2 locomotives for the Assam Bengal Railway in 1927. These locomotives were actually smaller than the later supplied members of the YD class as they incorporated a smaller boiler of the YB class as was originally ordained in the standard.
