I am left speechless by seeing such precious Gems, as Saifullah Sir rightly said. It just brought tears into my eyes for 2 reasons - 1. I could never see them in action, except the event in Mumbai-Thane run in 2003, and 2. I simply love them :)

We owe a lot to the non-Indian rail fans of IR, who decades before came to India and selectively and beautifully documented the Indian Railways, when the average indigenous rail fan was an extremely rare individual. Thank you Mr. Tickner for your tremendous contribution.

Hats of to you John for such a priceless collection. Your pics bring back, a kind of emotion, and sentiment that I used to have, seeing trains in my childhood years. That emotion is missing now, thanks to all the standardization!
Thank you!

Hi,

Fantastic, amazing! :-)
What great moods, usually steam in hot conditions is rather dull, but of course it can be quite cool in Northern India during winter. These ash collectors remind me of China, I could still experience such scenes in 2008.

Sadly many of us are too young to have taken pictures of this... on the other hand: we are young! ;-)

Cheers,
Roni
