The Little trains of South Gujarat
We start our Gujarat sojourn from the mystic, dense forests of Dang by the slow, little narrow gauge train that run between Waghai and Bilimora. Our Gujarat trip also ended with a visit to other not so well documented Narrow Gauge section between Nadiad and Bhadran.
We found almost all the stations in the section have big banyan tree to form the natural canopy to the NG train. Even being a junction for two different gauges of train, Bochasan see only 3 pairs of trains passing through each day. (Harish Kumar)
The aerial roots of the banyan tree act as blinds on a sunny afternoon (Harish Kumar)
If not for the maroon of the rail and train, this place could really get lost in the jungle (Naveen)
End of line perspective of Bhadran and the not so lengthy life of NG in India. (Harish Kumar)
Bhadran has an interesting legend to its name. Bhadran got its, as a localite shared with us, from the two temples of Bhadrakali and Ambaji who killed the two cruel brothers Bhadrasur and Aghasur, who once terrorized this region with their cruelty. (Hari
Very few passengers use this once a day train service from Bhadran. I am sure, this station would have seen better days, being under Gayakwad Narrow Gauge Railway which extended from here to Vaso and later to Baroda. (Harish Kumar)
An almost abandoned station building of Bhadran. There is no active ticket counter or a railway official stationed here. The train crew hold the key to the retiring room where the crew have lunch and rest before the return journey begin. (Naveen)
With the lone, usable door securely locked and the key handed over the the loco pilot, the Khalasi board the train. At 14:17, about 7 minutes behind schedule, the train moves forward, leaving the unmanned station behind. (Harish Kumar)
How many of us did this, then and now? This little girl too, was curious enough to hear the clickety clack of a passing train. (Naveen)
