Mick Pope's Goa Photos
Photos taken by Mick Pope in and around Majorda Jn. in Goa. October 2005
The signalman is standing on his little concrete steps as this northbound passenger hauled by a Pune WDM3A powers through Majorda on 22/11/05
Here is the signalman in action again Can someone explain to me why the flags are necessary as the station appears to be fully signalled?
Full cab #14049 of Erode shed approaches Majorda on a northbound KR working.
#14043 departs on the mid-day Kulem service while a Vasco bound train creeps into the up platform.
A little way down the line at Seraulim WDM-2 #16097 passes through the deserted halt under unseasonably cloudy skies heading towards Madgaon.
Midway between Majorda and Seraulim is a handy footbridge from which I took this shot of Erode based #14054. The loco is hauling the Jan Shatabdi Express.
The Kulem local with #14045 at the head passes an up train on the straight section between Majorda and Sraulim.
Observing a rake of wagons in the loop at Majorda I thought that a southbound departure would make a good telephoto shot as the train negotiated the crossovers. However I then noticed that the brake van was located at the South end of the rain. I assumed
The pair then head off to the tail end of the train and hooked onto the brakevan. A wait then followed as a southbound passenger passed. Happily I realised that the train was going to change direction and I would get my shot!
Having uncoupled the brakevan our locos took it over the crossovers onto the up line.
They then proceeded back onto the down main line where they deposited the van and ran round again to pick it up and attach to the other end of the rake. Using a busy mainline in this way is unusual practice in some countries.
Here the now familiar twins are finally attaching themselves to the front of the rake.
I finally get my shot but the light is by now poor as the sun is head on to the locos.
The load gathers speed and heads southwards.I found this an interesting little cameo of railway operation within a very limited track layout.
Early morning light at Majorda as the DMU departs northwards on 23/11/05. The platform on the up line is bi-directional while that on the down side is on the goods loop and is sometimes blocked by freight wagons, consequently trains may use a different p
