The 1NNJ Nagpur – Chhindwara passenger crawls into Itwari station with the Motibaug shed ZDM 4A # 223. Note the railwaymen waiting to conduct the “rolling-in examination”.
These diesel hydraulics are amongst the most powerful narrow gauge locos in the world and haul loads like 11 coaches (140 tonne) train at 40 Kmph speeds. The six cylinder inline prime mover is similar to the one used in the WDS 4.
The train speed is restricted due to the track and rolling stock conditions rather than the available power.
The Itwari yard has five of these 2’6” lines laid across with generous pitch – perhaps the most number anywhere in the country. 2006-12-09.
