Budni-Hoshangabad Trip
This album contains pictures taken in the Barkhera-Budni-Hoshangabad section which lies between Bhopal and Itarsi, by Vivek Mathur and Nishant Pundir
Pic#1: WAP 4 from Erode was ready to break the light fog of the evening as we got ready to begin our journey on the 2616.
Pic#2: WAP 1 #22055 of GZB on the opposite platform is allowed to go before us.
Pic#3: Morning at Vidisha: 2724 Andhra Pradesh Express overtook us at good speed as we waited on the loop line.
Pic#5: WAP4 #22616 from GZB was leaving Bhopal with the Chattisgarh express.
Pic#6: As we enter Bhopal we noticed this single line veering away towards the left in the direction of NDLS. Any comments where this connects?
Pic#9: People get really impatient at Bhopal outer level crossing as our 2616 makes slowly through it.
Pic#10: And there they are! The ghats of Barkhera - Budni. 2616 was approaching 100 KMPH at this point.
Pic#13: Our first checkpoint: The "Choka" cabin which literally does mean a checkpost. Note the down line at a lower level on the right of the picture. This cabin also sports a high signal adjacent to it which allows clear view even from a dista
Pic#15: Our second major landmark in these ghats: The Gadariya bridge. The speed limit here has been restricted to 10 KMPH due to repairs. This girder bridge is only for the up line. During the monsoons one can clearly make out the gushing sound of water
Pic#18: Single yellow signals make sure the 2616 restricts its speed through the line.
Pic#19: We near our final landmark in these ghats: The Midghat cabin. Once again built on a height to allow easy spotting of approaching trains on both lines. Note the old building architecture to allow easy run off for rain water. Also note the distance
Pic#20: This is the Midghat tunnel right next to the cabin. After this the down line climbs good amount of gradient (towards ET direction) and our up line goes down.
Pic#21: Speed limits /Whistle boards and curve information are all abundant in this area due to obvious reasons.
Pic#22: We have finally crossed the hills and approach Budni. At BNI, a WAG7-lead BCNA rake waits for the WAG5 twins assistance.
Pic#23: A zoom in to the Budni tunnel as we pick up speed from the station and head towards Hoshangabad.
Pic#24: The Narmada River Bridge. This bridge on the up line does not have a girder on it while the older one on the down line has it.(Inset: The river board just before the bridge)
Pic#25: We reach our destination and are greeted by the perfect gift. An LGD WAG9 waiting on the HBD loop.
Pic#26: A WAG7 approaches from behind on the main line and stops besides the G9.
