Ah, must add another interesting bit of info that I remembered. In those days, the tickets for Rajdhanis used to be printed in something akin to an airline ticket today - thin paper, cover jacket with instructions written on them et al. I remember vividly because I used to collect train tickets (the old small card tickets), and I used to be very disappointed when we travelled by Rajdhani because I did not get those card tickets!

The HWH Raj via Gaya ran on double diesel (both carrying the same Rajdhani livery) even in 1986. I remember that the lead loco even carried a name plate bearing the train name.

Yep! The HWH Raj via Gaya has been running completely under electric traction since the very early 80s.
The via Patna HWH Raj has switched over to electric for the entire run, since 2001 - I think.
