Roni's India Trip Pt 10 : Mumbai
Feb 3, 21-23 2012, gratefully invited at IS Anand's home, I departed for my India trip on Feb 3 in the evening by Punjab Mail, returned on Feb 21 followed by an excursion to Pune, Feb 22 was my last day along the tracks with a great early morning excursion to Vaitarna River bridge with young railfans Karthik, Mohit and Raj. At noon I returned to Mumbai for a final stroll through the city centre from Churchgate to C.S.T.
Vaitarna: Only five minutes later, again from the hill: southbound 12479 "Suryanagari Super Fast Express" from well-known Jodhpur to Bandra, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: WCAM-1 #21848 accelerated after crossing the bridge, you can clearly discern the two types of pantograph, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: Only three minutes behind it: Pune WDG-4 12381 hauling 06512 Jaipur - Yesvantpur Garib Rath - seems familiar? Oh yes, I had caught it on Monkey Hill, also hauled by a GM freight class, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: We had no break: only five minutes later another express towards Mumbai. As you can see high tide had set in, the water rushed inland through the pillars of the bridge, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: Vadodara WAP-4E 22810 pulled 12240 Jaipur - Mumbai Central Duronto across Vaitarna River, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: Due to the excellent train frequency in good light I chose to take the 10:42 MEMU towards Mumbai, I still wanted to visit the city terminals. We clicked a group portrait at the platform, then I had to squeeze into first class where I had to clin
Mumbai Churchgate: Before reaching Churchgate we had to stop shortly resulting in a delay of 10 minutes, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Mumbai Churchgate: As you could move again in the compartment, I took a peek out of the door. The suburban train windows sadly all featured a very tightly meshed protection, so images while sitting were out of the question, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Mumbai Churchgate: Having arrived at the platform the ladies from the women's compartment behind mine had to step out into the blazing midday sun, just as me. At Churchgate platforms could be found on both sides of the trains, in this case only on the oth
Mumbai Churchgate: At the same moment another train departed, sadly on the Western Railway only EMUs in the new, ugly MRVC-design could be found, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Mumbai Churchgate: Quite far out you could find a pedestrian subway, a rarity on Indian Railways where footbridges predominate, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Mumbai Churchgate: Four minutes after arrival my rake departed again, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Mumbai Churchgate: A view at the station hall being home to a curved track layout. In earlier times the line had continued down to Colaba, where I had spent the first night of the trip, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Mumbai Churchgate: A Churchgate - Borivali local stood ready for departure, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Mumbai Churchgate: Departing around noon - during rushhour I would hardly have been able to take that shot, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Mumbai Churchgate: In front of the station you immediately stepped into the world of Mumbai colonial buildings, this was the (old) Western Railway head office, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Mumbai Churchgate to C.S.T. walk: Premier Padmini taxis on Veer Nariman Road, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Mumbai Churchgate to C.S.T. walk: Ashok Leyland Titan double deckers on Dadabhai Naoroji Road towards CST, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
