Roni's India Trip Pt 10 : Mumbai
Feb 3, 21-23 2012, gratefully invited at IS Anand's home, I departed for my India trip on Feb 3 in the evening by Punjab Mail, returned on Feb 21 followed by an excursion to Pune, Feb 22 was my last day along the tracks with a great early morning excursion to Vaitarna River bridge with young railfans Karthik, Mohit and Raj. At noon I returned to Mumbai for a final stroll through the city centre from Churchgate to C.S.T.
Mumbai C.S.T.: Departing for the India trip by Punjab Mail from the new platforms, 2012-02-03 (Roni)
Vaitarna: As soon as Karthik, Mohit and I had made it up the hill the first express from Mumbai rushed past Vaitarna station, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: The northbound train was hauled by Kazipet WDM-3A #18795, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: Samastipur WDM-3A #16330R provided us with the first audio-visual spectacle of the day on still a little foggy Vaitarna River bridge! 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: 12215 Delhi Sarai Rohilla - Bandra Terminus Garib Rath consisted entirely of AC III coaches aided by generator cars, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: The next northbound approached through the fog behind the station, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: In the meantime 71082 Dombivli - Boisar Passenger had stopped at Vaitarna. It was comprised of a "DMU", in this case an ALCO "wrapped" by a four coach push-pull set on each side, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: Still, we had to be vigilant on the other side as well, as a red-striped tiger was sneaking through the mist, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: Yes, it was 12952 "Mumbai Rajdhani" New Delhi - Mumbai Central, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: The rake consisted entirely of LHB-designed coaches including two generator cars, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: Mohit filmed the exactly timed meeting of Ghaziabad WAP-5 30019 with Kalyan WDM-2 18560.
In other words: a Swiss SBB class Re 460 "Loco 2000" met an ALCO based on blueprints from the 50s! 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: No, the generator car did not blow up into smoke, these still were ALCO-fumes left from the DMU departure, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: The Rajdhani sped away as well, on its soon ending journey from the capital to the metropolis Mumbai, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: Shortly afterwards a railway employee came and called us back to the station.
On the way down I managed to quickly capture Ludhiana WAG-5 #23465 with freight, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: After a break of 2 1/2 hours due to negotiations with the staff about valid photo permits we could resume photography at 10 a.m., 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: These buckets for firefighting can be found exactly like this at every British heritage railway, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: The next Mumbai-bound express already announced itself on the other side of the bridge, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
Vaitarna: WCAM-1 #21845 rushing past people walking on the brigde, 2012-02-22 (Roni)
