Roni's India Trip Pt - 8: Pune
February 15-16 & 21 2012: A full day excursion with Apurva, Ashish and Lalam to Bhor Ghat at Lonavla, Monkey Hill and evening at Kamshet, as well as next morning at Pune and a day trip with IS Anand from Mumbai to Pune. Thanks a lot to Anand, Apurva, Ashish, Lalam, Rahul, Ranjit and all the others for their great hospitality!
Monkey Hill: To the left the third line branched off. As you can see a difference in distance compared to the mainline of 118 to 120 kms resulted from the diversion, 2012-02-15 (Roni Kappel)
Monkey Hill: WCAM-3 #21944 hauling 11026 Pune - Manmad Express which we already had spotted going into the other direction earlier that day, 2012-02-15 (Roni Kappel)
Monkey Hill: Back to Monkey Hill Cabin, definitely a more convenient post than humid, sweltering Mumbai, even if it had more than 30 degrees C here. More bankers were approaching, but we had to leave, 2012-02-15 (Roni Kappel)
Kamshet: We moved to our evening location Kamshet, the second local station from Lonavla towards Pune. A slice of Austria almost everywhere in the world: Plasser India Duomatic 08-32 tamping machine #8049 matched Apurva's Nano well in terms of colour, 201
Kamshet: Kalyan WCAM-3 #21959 hauled 11008 Pune - Mumbai CST "Deccan Express" along Indrayani River which had been dammed up here, 2012-02-15 (Roni Kappel)
Kamshet: The next highlight followed with 16530 Bangalore - Mumbai CST "Udyan Express", we had seen the train into the other direction at Lonavla. KJM WDP-4 #20055, built in January 2008, thundered up the grade to Lonavla, 2012-02-15 (Roni Kappe
Kamshet: The panorama view of "Udyan Express", in the field to the left you can spot a shed at one end of the only active public metre gauge line in Pune district, my companions had previously discovered a tiny railbus there, 2012-02-15 (Roni Ka
Kamshet: Down at the side road sister loco KJM WDP-4 #20056 followed with GM-thunder, pulling 11030 Kolhapur - Mumbai CST "Koyna Express", 2012-02-15 (Roni Kappel)
Kamshet: Now we moved to a lookout point at a hotel construction site. Soon the first local EMU from Pune came by, with new, yellow front, big windscreen and sadly the new, ugly purple livery, 2012-02-15 (Roni Kappel)
Kamshet: Hotel construction builders' huts, sometimes whole families lived there! 2012-02-15 (Roni Kappel)
Kamshet: Around ten minutes later the next local followed, 2012-02-15 (Roni Kappel)
Kamshet: The first EMU from Lonavla, an older class but also already in new livery. As you can see many birds flew by, a fact that would prove to be my doom later on, 2012-02-15 (Roni Kappel)
