  4. ZDM-4A 214 on train at Latur

This is the terminus of the Barsi Light Rly. (absorbed into Indian Railways 1954) which was owned by a London based firm. This 137km stretch from Miraj Junction is all that remains of a 325km line that once stretched across the dry semi-desert of Maharashtra, although in 2002 gauge conversion works were already in progress and expected complete by 2005. The loco is a ZDM-4A diesel-hydraulic 1B-B1 with 700hp and weighing 39 tons. 16.12.2002. Simon Mortimer.
