Motibaug ZDM-3A hauls the Nagpur – Jabalpur passenger out of the NG part of Nagpur Jn. The place Motibaug is perhaps the only shed on the IR that is not a railway station – the name does not exist in an older SER tt that I have. Now the section is looked after by the newly formed South East Central zone for which I do not have the timetable. Nagpur Jn., 2004-05-06. By Apurva (iti@vsnl.com).

Jabalpur passenger pitching and rolling out of Nagpur. These coaches may be of Narrow Gauge (2’6”) but are complete with continuous vacuum train brakes, generator fed coach lighting, sleeper compartments, toilets with running water ! There is even an AC chair car available on the crack Satpura express from Gondia to Jabalpur. Nagpur Jn., 2004-05-06. By Apurva (iti@vsnl.com).

Erode WAP-4 #22268 hauls in the 2615 Chennai – New Delhi Grand Trunk Express into Nagpur. The person on the right is the outgoing assistant driver who seems to be holding up a placard – the loco has switched on the headlamps and flasher, perhaps in response to the placard. The switching on of the lamps by the incoming crew saves time needed by the outgoing crew to check the facilities of the loco. Note the rake of curving behind the loco – the majority of the train is on track 1, while the loco and the leading coaches are on the track 2 – the north end of the platform 1 of NGP is bent !. Boy wonder fills the WAP-4 22268’s sandboxes! Grand Trunk Exp. power has a tough ghat section ahead and a heavy 24 coach load behind. Nagpur Jn., 2004-05-06. By Apurva (iti@vsnl.com).

Moving in the general direction of the Andaman Islands, the Jammu – Chennai Andaman express (perhaps so named as to make the people on the far off islands “wanted”) floats in from the Itarsi side into Nagpur Jn. Note the parcel van visible at the corner, there are several more on this rake – the passenger carrying coaches to parcel van ratio is a high 60:40. The track towards Howrah is on the right, the signal box controls the famous diamond crossing at the exit of NGP. Nagpur Jn., 2004-05-06. By Apurva (iti@vsnl.com).

Kanpur shed WAG-7 #27650 crawls into Nagpur pf 2 with a load of LPG carrying BTPGL wagons. Note the “support wagon” behind the loco to create a barrier between the head of a train and the highly explosive load behind in case of a collision. There is a similar “support wagon” at the rear too. Nagpur Jn., 2004-05-06. By Apurva (iti@vsnl.com).

Another mugshot of the Kanpur WAG-7 # 27650. The “STC fitted” notice on the buffer beam refers the replacement of the troublesome and mechanically intricate Arno converter with an even more intricate IGBT based Static (but with no moving parts) Inverter. This device converts the single phase AC supply derived from the OHE to three phase fixed frequency supply that can drive the equipment motors like air compressors, traction motor blowers etc. Nagpur Jn., 2004-05-06. ASN23879_NGP_6may04.jpg

Asansol WAG-5 #23879 arrived with a container load on track two. This loco lacks the MU connector so has to always run alone. Note the converging tracks 1 and 2. The train would continue and end up on the extention of pf 1 after some distance. Why the lit red marker lamps ? Maybe another bizarre Nagpuri ritual….. Nagpur Jn., 2004-05-06. The loco has “escaped” from the just arrived rake of Nainpur passenger using a point that leads the loco on this adjacent track – now it is moving back to the very track it has arrived on – to couple to the Nainpur passenger for the journey back. Nagpur Jn., 2004-05-06. By Apurva (iti@vsnl.com).
