Erode WAP-4 #22268 hauls in the 2615 Chennai – New Delhi Grand Trunk Express into Nagpur. The person on the right is the outgoing assistant driver who seems to be holding up a placard – the loco has switched on the headlamps and flasher, perhaps in response to the placard. The switching on of the lamps by the incoming crew saves time needed by the outgoing crew to check the facilities of the loco. Note the rake of curving behind the loco – the majority of the train is on track 1, while the loco and the leading coaches are on the track 2 – the north end of the platform 1 of NGP is bent !. Moving in the general direction of the Andaman Islands, the Jammu – Chennai Andaman express (perhaps so named as to make the people on the far off islands “wanted”) floats in from the Itarsi side into Nagpur Jn. Note the parcel van visible at the corner, there are several more on this rake – the passenger carrying coaches to parcel van ratio is a high 60:40. The “STC fitted” notice on the buffer beam refers the replacement of the troublesome and mechanically intricate Arno converter with an even more intricate IGBT based Static (but with no moving parts) Inverter.
