Konkan Railway’s unique fire extinguisher on rails at Ratnagiri. The profiled water tanks are on either side of this strange contraption – the center section is secured with a collapsible grill that contains diesel fire pumps – I could see a fixed pump with large capacity and a portable skid mounted pump with smaller hoses. The vehicle has a two axle bogie at either end, a CBC as well as a transition coupler. Very strangely, the fire extinguisher is provided vacuum brakes – this is the probably the only VB vehicle on the KR. Ratnagiri, Oct 2003. By Apurva (iti@vsnl.com).
