A photo series with an accompanying observation report on CHTS by Jimmy Jose
A part of the line to Cochin Berth is used by oil tankers to supply fuel to ships. This is the gantry. CHTS, 2003-12-26. By Jimmy Jose.
This is the old line where oil tankers used to unload oil to the waiting ships. Note that the pipes are fitted at the bottom rather than at the top of the tankers. CHTS, 2003-12-24. By Jimmy Jose.
A view of the old unused loco trip shed at CHTS. CHTS no more has a trip shed since very few locos come here. CHTS, 2003-12-24. By Jimmy Jose.
A railway line goes to the Mattanchery Wharf. This line is also not used now. Luckily it is not buried under the road, as many of the lines at CHTS are. CHTS, 2003-12-26. By Jimmy Jose.
CHTS is surely wounded but refuses to die. This is the reason. The huge container terminals present it with lots of revenue. A BOXC rake has made a strange visit to the Container terminal. CHTS, 2003-12-26. By Jimmy Jose.
Some hope for CHTS, the entrance to the CONCOR container terminal. This container terminal is a revenue earner and will help to heal some of CHTS's sorrows. CHTS, 2003-12-26. By Jimmy Jose.
This is another container terminal. Trucks do most of the job, but rail is not left much behind. So, will CHTS once get converted to a container terminal only station? CHTS, 2003-12-24. By Jimmy Jose.
A bit off-topic. This is the old Cochin Airport. A much worse fate than CHTS has fallen over it. Witness to World War 2, the first jet landing in Kerala and a plane crash, it was closed in June 1999 when the new airport, about 30 kms away from here was in
The siding at Cochin Refineries. The line is electrified only till this siding. Oil is filled at a separate yard. Cochin Refinery, 2004-01-17. By Jimmy Jose.
The line to Cochin refinery from the siding. A WDS shunter takes the tanker wagons to the filling station inside the Cochin Refinery from here. Electrification ends about 500 metres from here. Cochin Refinery, 2004-01-17. By Jimmy Jose.
The oil tanker cleaning facility at the siding. Cochin Refinery, 2004-01-17. By Jimmy Jose.
Various kinds of wagons are found in the siding, shunted and waiting for a trip. This is a high security area and I sneaked in with much difficulty. Cochin Refinery, 2004-01-17. By Jimmy Jose.
Unloading fuel for ships at the Gantry. Note the ship "MV Bharat Seema" operating on Cochin - Lakshwadep route
A close up view of the oil tankers and emplyees involved in checking oil levels prior to unloading
Though Railways have foresaken the Cochin Harbour Terminus and no passenger trains come here anymore, the station still look majestic in the moonlight and is a reminder to it's glorious yesteryears
Another view of the beautifull station. You will never say that no trains come here anyomre from it's looks
The only area of the station that still has some activity - the Movement Control Office of the Military (note the "Shaan se aur Shauk se" slogan)
