Our 20 DN Gorakhpur Howrah Express (now 3020 Kathgodam-Howrah Bagh Express) was powered by one of these beasts in 1987. In those times, there was an loco change(diesel-electric) at Asansol, where WAM2/1 took over. I have never seen these at ASN, so...

How was the visibility of the track ahead from the cab? I know, these loco never ran with cab trailing fashion. Any idea why this unique design was phased out?
