Aburoad WDG3 #14871 pushing(yes pushing!)a loaded BOXN rake out of Vyara yard onto the mainline. There was a WAG7 at the head of the train but apparently this WDG3 is undergoing some kind of trial. Its been fitted with something called a "Turbo Super-Charger" and is temporarily booked to run as a WDM3D as per instructions of ABR shed.Hence, its hauling capacity is reduced. This seems to be a safe environment test as a failure would not result in detention as a regular loco is available at the head of the train. The guy leaning out of the window is the driver.
The Brake-Pipe of the loco is not attached to the formation.Braking is entirely in the hands of the driver of the leading WAG7.
Every significant diesel loco on the IR has a turbo-supercharger (shortened to turbocharger) and an intercooler too. This loco may have suffered a turbo failure and was fitted temporarily with a WDM 2 turbo. This would keep the loco somewhat operational...

This loco may have suffered a turbo failure and was fitted temporarily with a WDM 2 turbo. This would keep the loco somewhat operational till the critical parts arrived from the vendor (the turbos for 3100 HP locos are usually in a short supply). Fitting a smaller turbo de-rated the loco to work as an ordinary WDM2 (not the WDM3D - which is even more powerful than this WDG3A).

Perhaps a different type/brand of turbo you mean which is underoing trials... But that doesnt reduce the hauling power.
Great solid-looking loco.

How about an intercooler too !

Very interesting. A turbo charger is already present in all our Alco locomotives. A super charger could provide some additional boost in power & torque, it cannot reduce the hauling capacity
